Les Deux Alpes is a long narrow village
situated at an altitude of 1650m. During the
summer months (middle June-September) skiing
takes place as high as 3600m. Deux Alpes is
situated between Grenoble and Briancon and is
easy to get to being less than 1hr 30mins from
Grenoble Airport.
The village itself has a collection of hotels,
apartments,
bars, restaurants, shops mostly found along the
main street. Les 2 Alpes is renowned for a
lively atmosphere and has lots of après
ski activities for all ages. Building work
started in the 1960’s and 70’s but
recently Les Deux Alpes has undergone
redevelopment with high class apartments being
introduced to the resort. As the village is
spread out long ways there isn’t really a
central point although a few landmarks are
evident in the middle such as the Les 2 Alpes
Jandri Express lift. The lifts are spread along
the length of the resort. Alpe de Venosc owns
many of the nightspots and hotels and has the
most character with less traffic and the
advantage of the Diable gondola (good for
experts). Near to the Jandri Express there is
an outdoor ice rink. If you are wishing to get
around the resort and explore there is a free
shuttle bus available. On Wednesdays and
Thursdays a shuttle bus runs to other resorts
nearby such as Serre Chevalier and Alpe
d’Huez.
Les Deux Alpes nightlife - for the nocturnal
there are a few nightclubs to keep you busy
through the night, some shut as late as 4am.
For families or those interested in a quieter
affair there are plenty of restaurants and bars
awaiting you.
If you fancy a change of scenery take a gondola
to Venosc (gondola shuts at 7pm).
Alternatively, the pretty little village of
Venosc is accessed from a main road
turn-off. Its cobbled streets, old
chalets, fountains, 14th century
church and old-style architecture gives the
village and its hamlets a traditional
feel.
Les 2 Alpes offers an amazing array of more
than 80 activities, from quad biking to via
ferrata, paragliding to sledging. There are a
couple of must-dos in Deux Alpes. Take the
Croisière Blanche caterpillar snow-bus
to Dôme de la Lauze at 3568m to admire
the panoramic view out over Europe’s
largest skiable glacier. The Ice Grotto is
definitely worth a look too.
For the mountain bikers among you, why not take
your mountain bike up in the cable car to 2600m
and then take an exhilarating descent by the
Col des Gours for the ride of your life.
If that doesn’t appeal why not go carting
instead. Or how about a spot of ice gliding at
the open-air ice rink, it’s similar to
bumper cars but three times the fun! Golf
and climbing are both things you can do
here. For adrenalin pumping action you can
even bungee jump from one of the highest cable
cars in Europe. Canoeing, rafting and
hydrospeed are just some of the other
activities that are available at the
resort.
Les Deux Alpes is a very child-friendly resort
with clubs to entertain children from 6 months
to 16 years old.
